CNN Hosting HBCU Contest On Being Black In America

CNN is asking HBCU students what it means to be “Black in America” through its Campus iReporter Contest.

Students from the Atlanta University Center, Florida A&M University, Howard University, North Carolina A&T University and North Carolina Central University are eligible to win a trip to the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans and a digital video camera by submitting a video to be aired during CNN’s series “Black in America.”

Entries should be 1 to 10 minutes in length and should address one of the following issues:

• HIV, AIDS and STDs in the Black community.
• The role of HBCUs in higher education - why choose an HBCU over predominately White institutions?
• The state of education and if students should be paid to learn.
• Single parent families as seven out of every 10 Black children are born to a single mother.
• Being Black and single, 45 percent of all Black women have never been married, and the higher their education, the greater that number.
• What does it mean to be "Black in America"?

Entries are being accepted until 11:59 p.m. on May 6, 2008. CNN is hosting this contest as well as an HBCU campus tour in conjunction with the National Association of Black Journalists.
